We want you to win the competition at 25 AND get off the toilet by yourself at 90
CrossFit Una Stamus · September 2026 · 6 min read
Here's a question almost nobody asks themselves at the gym: what do you actually want your fitness for, forty years from now?
Not instead of today's goals. In addition to them. Because the mile you're chasing this month and the strength you'll need forty years from now aren't in competition with each other. They're built the same way.
Most fitness culture is obsessed with right now — the next PR, the next competition, the next transformation photo. Some gyms swing the other way entirely and only talk about "someday." At CrossFit Una Stamus, we refuse to pick a side. We train for both. We call it the long game — and the long game includes today.
Fitness for right now AND fitness for the whole ride
There's nothing wrong with wanting to be fit in your 20s and 30s. Chase the PRs. Enjoy the strength. Compete if you want to. Those years matter, and we're fully behind you chasing them hard.
But here's the truth almost nobody tells you: the training that gets you a PR today can also be the training that serves you decades from now — if it's built right. A body trained only for performance, with zero thought for what comes after, can break down exactly when it matters most. But a body trained with real intention, for strength, balance, and mobility, keeps performing today and keeps holding up tomorrow. It's not one or the other.
So every workout we program is built with two things in mind at once: how it makes you better this month, and how it's still serving you decades from now. We're not choosing between the season ahead and the decades ahead. We're building for both, in the very same workout.
That's the long game. And it changes how we think about every single thing we program.
What "functional fitness" really means, at every stage
You've probably heard us talk about functional fitness — training that carries over into real life, not just the gym floor. That matters at 25. And it matters even more at 85.
Think about what actually determines someone's performance today and their independence decades from now. It's the same list, whether you're competing this weekend or just living your life:
- Getting up off the floor — whether that's after a workout or off a couch, a chair, or a toilet, without needing help
- Carrying real load — a barbell today, groceries or a grandchild decades from now — without straining something or losing your balance
- Climbing, running, or moving hard without your heart and lungs giving out
- Catching yourself under a heavy lift now, or if you trip later — the same trained reflex, at every age
- Staying steady and capable whether that's in competition or just getting in and out of a car
Every one of those depends on strength, balance, mobility, and a body that knows how to move under load — right now, and for as long as you keep training it that way.
We want you to win the competition when you're 25. And we want you to get off the toilet by yourself when you're 90. We're not choosing. We're training for both.
Why we program for both
This is why our programming looks the way it does. It's not random intensity for the sake of a good sweat, and it's not so cautious that it holds back your progress today. It's built with real intention, for right now and for later:
- Strength training to build power today and preserve muscle and bone density for decades to come
- Mobility and movement quality so your joints perform better now and stay capable through a full range of motion later
- Balance and stability work that improves your lifts today and trains your body to catch itself for the rest of your life
- Conditioning that gets you through today's workout and keeps your heart and lungs capable of real-world demands for years
- Scalability at every level, so a competitive 25-year-old and a 70-year-old training for independence can be in the same class, each getting exactly what they need
Every workout serves two timelines at once: the one you're living this month, and the one you'll be living decades from now. That's not a tradeoff. That's just good programming.
The part almost nobody talks about: community and the long haul
Here's something just as important as the programming itself: none of this works — today's performance or tomorrow's independence — without consistency. And almost nothing supports consistency over decades like a real community.
Motivation is unreliable. It comes and goes with your mood, your energy, your week. If the long game depended on motivation alone, almost nobody would make it. But a strong community doesn't run on motivation. It runs on relationships — and relationships are much harder to walk away from.
Training in a place with real social support does more than keep you coming back this month. Over years and decades, it:
- Builds positive accountability — the kind that comes from people who notice when you're gone and are genuinely glad when you show up, not guilt or pressure
- Turns workouts into relationships — friendships that make you want to be in the room, long after any single fitness goal has come and gone
- Protects your consistency through life's disruptions — the injuries, the busy seasons, the hard years — because a community pulls you back in instead of letting you quietly disappear
- Supports your mental and emotional health right alongside your physical health, which matters just as much for a long, good life
This is why we've built CrossFit Una Stamus around community from day one. It's not a nice bonus on top of good programming. It's the thing that makes both today's results and decades of good training actually possible. The workouts build your body for right now and for the long game. The community makes sure you're still here to keep playing it.
The goal is a full life — today, and every day after
So here's our honest pitch: we're not asking you to choose between getting after it now and setting yourself up for later. We want both for you.
A body that hits the PR this season and still lets you play with your grandkids on the floor and get back up easily, decades from now. That competes hard today and carries your own bags at 80. That trains for intensity now and catches itself instead of falling later. That gets off the toilet without a second thought well into your 90s — because along the way, you never stopped training the strength, balance, and mobility that moment requires.
That's not a compromise. That's the whole point. And it's exactly what we're building here, every single day, together.
Una Stamus. Together We Stand — for today, and for the long game.
